The Sonics Shelf
Calling out all Sonics fans. I want to talk to you about your Sonics memorabilia.
During the back end of 2022 I interviewed a dozen Seattle Supersonics fans for Fansided about how they are keeping the dream alive of one day having a basketball team back in Seattle.
Here’s a snippet:
For the last 14 years though, there’s been a gritty cohort of people who are determined to bring an NBA team back to Seattle. And in doing so they’ve ensured the Sonics’ identity hasn’t been lost. The struggle has come from doctors, lawyers, filmmakers, business owners, teachers, entrepreneurs, developers. Their efforts have put public pressure on governance, they’ve elected officials, preserved Sonics stories. They’ve continued to love basketball in Seattle.
“We’re going to accomplish more together and feel better together than any other group of fans ever, because of our history and because of what we’ve been through and it’s going to make it special, ” Robinson said. “The reason we’ve all stayed at it for so many years, is because of the incredible community we have found in the struggle as we’ve fought together.”

Since then I’ve been curious and intrigued by the Sonics fanbase and have long admired their dedication to their team that no longer plays in the NBA. Over the years Sonics fans have held on to their merchandise, memorabilia, and keep sakes to remember a time when the Sonics physically existed.
Which brings me to this new project: The Sonics Shelf.
Consider this a call out to Sonics fans.
The ask:
I’m looking to speak with fans who own jerseys, posters, ticket stubs, bobbleheads, autographs, coffee cups — anything Sonics-related.
This project will be a tribute to Sonics fans who never stopped repping the the green and gold.
I want to speak with fans about these items, what it is, what it means, what it cost, how they got it and where, why fans have held onto the memorabilia, and if there’s still as strong belief the Sonics will return.
If you have 3-5 items to discuss that would be neat. But also, I’m not looking for huge collections. One cherished item to talk about is great enough.
